New Developments in Microstructure Analysis via Rietveld Refinement
نویسنده
چکیده
Innovative applications of the Rietveld method [1-3] are likely to include new developments in microstructure analysis. More and more samples show microstructure effects on line profile shape, width and position. Reasons are obviously the powder diffractometer resolution improvements at leading synchrotron sources, and the increasing user number. When the minimal full width at half maximum is as low as 0.01° (2θ) (synchrotron data), sample effects are no longer occulted by instrumental effects. Finer microstructure details are revealed, needing adapted Rietveld software. Previous reviews on this topic have reported methods used to model anisotropic size and microstrain broadening in the Rietveld method [4-7]. A more general survey will be available in the forthcoming book Microstructure analysis by Diffraction (H.-J. Bunge, J. Fiala and R.L. Snyder, Eds.). Recent innovations/applications are discussed in this paper, with a special emphasize on anisotropic effects in the Rietveld method.

Synthesis and Characterization of Nanocrystalline Ni3Al Intermetallic during Mechanical Alloying Process
In this research, formation of nanocrystalline Ni3Al intermetallic from Ni and Al elemental powders by mechanical alloying (MA) process and its characterization was investigated. Therefore, the evolutions in microstructure such as phase transformation, oxidation in air and introduction of Fe impurity from milling media after MA were evaluated using XRD, Rietveld refinement, TEM, SEM, EDS and IC...
متن کاملCrystallite Morphology in Gold Catalysts Obtained by Rietveld Refinement
The microstructure of gold catalysts supported on rutile was obtained by Rietveld refinement. Three-dimensional images of the crystallites were generated in real space, as well as 3-D images of the microstrain distribution in reciprocal space. These images were used to analyze the effect of the different parameters of the refinement models on the interpretation of the microstructure of the samp...

A microstructure consisting of ultrafine grained (UFG) ferrite with average grain size of ~ 0.7 µm and dispersed nano-sized carbides was produced by cold-rolling and tempering of the martensite starting microstructure in a low carbon steel. Subsequently, fine grained dual phase (DP) steel consisting of equiaxed ferrite grains with average size of ~ 5 µm and martensite islands with average size ...

Since its inception over 35 years ago, Rietveld refinement (Rietveld, 1969) has come a long way. In the beginning, the aim was to carry out crystal-structure refinement using neutron diffraction. As its primary purpose was refinement of the perfect crystal structures of polycrystalline samples, there was a need to introduce corrections to peak intensities and positions, as calculated for a perf...
